As a review of the ongoing development of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, it is evident that the institution has maintained a steadfast commitment to its foundational mission since its inception in 1994. The hospital has distinguished itself by providing modern curative and palliative treatments to a vast patient population, offering financial support to more than 75% of those in need through the dedication of its staff and the support of benefactors.

The establishment of a second facility in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa represents a strategic response to the increasing demand for specialized cancer care in Pakistan. In 2011, land was generously allocated by the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Hayatabad, Peshawar, facilitating the construction of this significant project. Currently nearing completion, the seven-storey complex encompasses approximately 450,000 square feet at an estimated cost of Rs. 400 crore (four billion rupees). The project now requires an additional Rs. 80 crore to complete equipment installation and operational readiness prior to an expected opening on December 29, 2015.

The phased opening will initially include outpatient clinics, inpatient wards, an intensive care unit, chemotherapy facilities, and an emergency assessment area. Support services such as radiology and pathology will complement these offerings. Subsequent phases will expand the hospital’s capabilities by adding radiotherapy and surgical oncology services, thereby enhancing comprehensive cancer care in the region.

This initiative exemplifies a profound belief in human kindness and community support.
